Lancelyn Theatre Supplies was started as Lancelyn Lighting in Oxford in 1970, as a part-time business by Scirard Lancelyn Green Esq. MA(oxon) who was studying for a Physics degree at the time at Oxford University. Back then, the lighting controls used for the many outdoor shows done in Oxford were huge resistance dimmer boards operated by tracker wire, and purchased by the Oxford University Dramatic Society probably in the 1930's. Semiconductor dimmers had just been invented, and the business started with the first of these to be available in the area.
