Adopt A Tree

The woodland once belonged to the Forestry Commission and has twelve acres of broadleaf ancient woodland as well mixed and coniferous areas, in all totaling forty-two acres. The coniferous areas were planted in 1965 and will be ready to fell in the next five to ten years. Our policy is to gradually thin the coniferous areas and under plant with native trees, shrubs and flowers to provide a good habitat for birds, mammals and insects. We will not at any time just fell all the forestry trees and leave a bare hillside. We do not have any weeds in the woodland, just wild plants and flowers. Even patches of nettles or brambles play an important part in the food chain and provide an important hiding place for many small creatures.
