Back in 1955 when Sidney Gold opened a grocery store in Ilford, he could hardly have imagined the chain of events he was setting in motion. Just a few years after the opening of the first Golds shop, two more outlets were opened by the next generation, brothers Barrie and Tony. Initially, these two shops sold tobacco and confectionery, but when the brothers saw an opportunity to branch out into record retailing their entrepreneurial instincts really came to the fore. Record retailing led to wholesaling and Golds began to grow rapidly. As the home entertainment market evolved, the Golds (by now including Barrie's son Jonathan) applied their experience to video wholesaling and today, Golds is a major competitor in a worldwide multi-billion pound industry. How has all this been achieved? Through hard work of course, but also through firm commitment to our 'golden rules': loyalty and service based on three generations of family tradition, 'buy at a fair price, sell at a fair price', the retaining of our independent status which enables us to make decisions and take action swiftly with investment and innovation. We're proud of the fact that many of our customers have been with us from our earliest days in wholesaling and equally proud that we continue to sign up new accounts every month.
